It should go without being said, but if your log home contractor does not have insurance, you will likely pay for any damage they cause. Make sure your contractor has the proper licenses and insurance. In Spokane and CDA, it is especially important! We get a lot of variations with our weather conditions that add more stress for your log home products to hold up to. It is better to go with high quality products the first time, as they are made to be used specifically on log homes. 90 percent of the restoration of a log home is actually labor, so if your contractor decides to use a low quality product, you are going to have a premature failure and have to redo the restoration in a couple of years. If your contractor plan to use anything other than Sashco products, we recommend you do an extended amount of research. Ask what types of products the contractor will use. You must use the same or compatible product with the material that was previously used because the pressure washing will leave traces of the previous stain of the log surface. The only time you should pressure wash a house before staining is if you are applying a maintenance clear coat. If ALL of the previous stain is not completely removed, you could be looking at a premature coating failure within a year or two. The only way to remove the previous stain from your log home is through media blasting. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS!!! Pressure washing a log home will not fully remove the previous stain. Some contractors suggest they can use a pressure washer and chemicals to remove the previous coats of stain. Some log home contractors will take 1-2 months to achieve the same amount of work and will deliver a low-quality product. These large, expensive pieces of machinery allow us to complete a blast, borate, check fill and stain job in 4-5 days. We use a 4000 PSI Airless spray pump to spray our stain and a Snorkler chink pump to dispense bulk chink. At North Idaho Log Home Restoration, we use a 375 FM Air compressor and a 600 lb blast pot to do our blasting.
